Biography

Léa Bois is a multidisciplinary artist based in Montreal. She studied for several years at Concordia University in Visual Art where she explored textile art, ceramics and drawing. In the summer of 2018, Léa left the academic world in order to experience greater freedom in her art and deepen her artistic practice. She will turn to textile art such as embroidery and weaving. In March 2020, she will have the opportunity to present the result of these two years of experimentation during a first solo exhibition at Espace gallery in Montreal.
The pandemic will change her way of approaching visual art and drawing will become her primary medium again. She will obtain a grant from the Quebec government in order to develop her skills in this medium while allowing her to set up her own embroidery workshop. In 2023, Léa will be presenting her new work at Port-Maurice gallery and L’Affichiste gallery, situated in Montreal.
Artist Statement
Allied with my color pencils and oil pastels, I seek to represent the trace that humans leave in their living space by recreating the scenes, or rather "after-scenes", of everyday life. I am particularly interested in the end of evenings and the less prestigious paintings of these: the chaos of half-finished glasses, the stacked plates, the overflowing ashtrays.

Using bright and saturated colors, I like to represent these little fragments of still life in a realistic and luminous style in order to transmit to those who look at them the feeling of solitude and meditation that chaos can sometimes awaken. I seek to magnify imperfection and disorder in order to remind me that beauty is found in all the experiences of life, particularly in the era where the aesthetics and the daily perfection of social networks and advertising monopolizes us.
